Matt Hudson, director of publications, communications, and marketing at the Entomological Society of America (ESA) and former publications and communications manager at the Geological Society of America (GSA), is the recipient of the 2021 Mary B. Ansari Distinguished Service Award from the Geoscience Information Society. This award honors information professionals for making a significant contribution to the geoscience community. It was established in 2005 through the generous support of the late Ms. Ansari, Director Emerita for Branch Libraries and Administrative Services at the University of Nevada-Reno and President of the Geoscience Information Society in 1990. The award’s presentation will be at the GSIS virtual lunch on Friday, October 22, 2021 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. (Eastern Time).
Matt began his leadership role in GSIS as vice-president in 2015 and served as President in 2016 and 2017. His contribution to the broader geoscience community includes serving on the GeoScienceWorld Board of Governors and his work for 15 years as publications and communications manager at the Geological Society of America. His career has exemplified his belief that “nonprofit societies like GSIS and ESA play a unique and important role in supporting scientists and scientific research.”
