GSIS Annual Meeting
The GSIS Virtual Annual Meeting will follow on Thursday, October 24, 2024 and will be free of charge. Registration is not required. This is an opportunity for geoscience information professionals to meet with their peers and share challenges, ideas, and discussions about the topics relevant to them as a professional, honor the best information resources in the geoscience field, and to become involved in shaping GSIS’s future. To join the meeting virtually, click here.

The seminar provides experienced librarians a refresher overview with a chance to network with colleagues and view current issues and concerns of the profession. Virtual participation will take place via webinar, October 22 – 23, 2024.

The GL 101 webinar will be hosted by the Carnegie Science Library Earth & Planetary Science Laboratory for GSIS.

Call for mini-poster session at Geoscience Librarianship 101 (GL 101)

The Geoscience Information Society (GSIS) is hosting its annual free virtual workshop Geoscience Librarianship 101 (GL 101) on October 22nd and 23rd, 2024, and now seeking submissions for a mini poster session to be held during the online workshop. We welcome posters and an accompanying 5-10-minute presentation from all informational professionals on topics of interest or relevant to geosciences. Geoscience librarians and library school or other graduate students are welcome to participate.

Topics to consider are:
AI in Libraries
Geoscience Data or Data Management
Open Science
Open Education Resources in the Geosciences
Publishing for Geoscience Librarians/How to get an article Published
GIS
Other topics welcome!

2024 Call for Nominations: Mary B. Ansari Distinguished Service Award

Nominations are being sought for the 2024 Geoscience Information Society (GSIS)  Mary B. Ansari Distinguished Service Award. The submission deadline is August 23, 2024. 

Established in 2005 to recognize and honor significant contributions to the geoscience information profession, the award is named for the late Mary B. Ansari. She formerly served as the society’s President and was employed as a librarian and library administrator at the University of Nevada, Reno Libraries for twenty-five years. The award is presented at the annual meeting and is accompanied by a monetary gift.
